Production: Devlog 8

The end is nearing! With this being our last week of making new features, we have so many new things to show you. However, worry not, we will still be working hard to polish the game for the next couple of weeks!

Art Devlog

We're starting to see that we have added everything we want to add to the game visually speaking, with lots of room to improve in the coming polish weeks.

For starters, we are finally reaching a point where we are starting to be happy with the way the game looks. It has certainly been a roller coaster to get here, but the lighting and prop-fidelity is really starting to get there.

Although we still had props we want to finish, we also needed to work on some of the more 'technical' aspects of the look of our game. One of our artists made some shaders to help visualize the molds filling up and the castles spawning.

This shader also works in worldspace, which means that our castles (which are composed of multiple game objects) will also work with them!

We also (finally) made a particle for the sand falling into the beach:

For  a tropical game we sure were lacking a whole lot of tropical flowers, one of our artists sought to remedy that in this week and added a few variations on colourful flowers to decorate the level.

The crabs got some more attention as well and acquired some more animation and also added an extra animation bit to one of the background pieces, the chest.

We have also started looking into sound effects to help make the game feel more immersive, and impactful.

As we did hit the last week of the production phase, we still wanted to add some of the features we had in mind when we started this project, we tried our best but discovered that with a somewhat rushed approach (watch out that you don't place the sandwich in the sandcastles) we did notice a couple of kinks that we will iron out during the polish phase.

With implementing more and more RFX at the same time and looking at different ways of giving player feedback, we are hitting a stage that the features have been implemented!

Meanwhile: some gifs we're proud of:
