Polish: Devlog 10

Just like how all good things must come to an end, so has our polishing phase. Although its not the deadline yet, our polishing phase has come to an end and we do not *plan* to work on the game more until then.

This week our game saw a dramatic change, with the end nearing we finalized our assets, scenes, and gameplay. We are all incredibly proud to show you our game, and we hope you will like it too!

Although the assignment will come to an end soon, we do plan on finishing the game during the summer. We have so many more ideas and visions for the game, and sadly we will not be able to finish all of it by the end of the project. But we’re all too invested to leave this project with any regrets so stay tuned for more updates in the future!

Oh Crab! sure has gone through quite some changes since its first week of production.

None of our artists had any experience with designing or creating UI before, so naturally we excluded the task until the end. However, this week we pulled through, and polished and made some UI elements for the game. From this, we now have a new-found appreciation for UI Artists, it’s not easy to make UI!

Although it took some trial and error, having good UI has upgraded the quality of our visuals a lot.

We also polished the main menu scene, now we have a dynamic main menu, waiting for your arrival!

Before this week we have already experimented with post-processing, but this week we really homed in on it and made sure that the colors and settings complimented and uplifted our assets.

Sound is a necessary element to any game as well, and this week we tweaked and added more sounds into the game. Having music and sounds really make the biggest difference, and it really does all the effort we put in the game justice!

More bugfixes!

Well mostly implementation of sounds, implementations  of player feedback (buttons appearing above items that you can pick up) small buttons next to the buckets in the UI, more bugfixes, we implemented the pearl towers underneath the pearls to give the player some extra time.

We fixed a bug where the build sandcastles from the mold would not unlock from the sand and thus be an everlasting barrier.

We fixed a throwing bug with the sandwich to make sure after a certain while the seagull will come and pick it up.

We fixed a collision bug with placing the items (mostly the molds which would launch you into the air).

We fixed the crab animations not working thanks to old code.

We got the audio working mostly correctly.

We fixed the poop interaction.

We tried optimizing the beach, with different levels of success.
